LATHER was founded in 1999 by Emilie Hoyt, a woman who long suffered from migraines. When her doctors weren't able to diagnose what was causing the debilitating pain, she took it upon herself. What she found was shocking: Synthetic fragrances were to blame, something found in 95% of beauty products. This prompted Hoyt to start creating her own beauty formulations and offer them to people who wanted safer, more natural ways to take care of their bodies. Today, LATHER continues the tradition of using no artificial fragrances or colors in its product. It also stays clear of sulfates, parabens and mineral oil, and it never tests its products on animals.
